The Italian team is currently conducting deliberate focus groups on climate justice activism in various locations in Italy as part of Work Package 6. So far, four focus groups have been conducted: three in urban centers-one in Naples and two in Rome-and one in a rural town in the Abruzzo region, on the outskirts of the Majella National Park. Employing a participatory approach with the aid of visual cues, the novel design of the focus groups allowed participants to have an open discussion on five fictional protest scenarios and invited them to reconstruct a scenario in a way they believed would resonate most effectively across different levels of society.
During the focus group discussion held in Napoli (28.04.2025) at a co-working space called Dialogue, the participants formulated what they termed as 'Hyperpolitics matrix' to try to map the main political dimensions that gravitate around the issue of climate change. The goal of the matrix is to serve as an interpretative tool to represent the tensions between institutional and non-institutional actors, forms of participation, and economic powers, all to offer a complex but structured view of the climate phenomenon.
