Predoctoral researcher Sarah Helena Schäfer (WP1/WP8) has presented her doctoral topic to students at the University of Vienna during a lecture series on Sociological Theories. As part of the final lecture on postcolonialism and decolonial studies given by CIDAPE's project coordinator Professor Anna Durnová, Sarah spoke about how she is integrating her investigation of the climate discourse in spiritual communities in her research design. Focussing on the case of Tibetan Buddhist climate discourse and the role of emotions as part of her work for CIDAPE, Sarah is particularly interested in embedding her research into a decolonial framework, critiquing climate politics' dominant focus on technocratic policy deliberation. In her thesis, she will examine how affective and spiritually inclined climate discourses and practices outside of mainstream politics can impact democratic climate action.
